The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, has commended Ghana’s civil aviation sector for demonstrating remarkable resilience and consistent growth.

He attributed this progress to strategic government investments aimed at repositioning the country as the aviation hub of West Africa.

Speaking at the commissioning of the Air Navigation Center in Accra on Monday, August 5, 2025, the minister highlighted the establishment of the Air Navigation Services Agency under the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority Act, 2020 (Act 1051).

He noted that the Act aligns Ghana’s aviation framework with international best practices.

The legislation was enacted to end the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority’s dual role as both regulator and service provider, thereby promoting transparency and ensuring high safety standards.

“The aviation industry is showing great resilience and consistent growth thanks to the government’s continued support,” Minister Nikpe stated.

“But it’s not just about government initiatives, it’s also about how stakeholders utilise the new infrastructure and systems to elevate the sector,” he added.

He urged aviation professionals, including the acting Director-General and management staff, to make full use of the newly commissioned facilities and infrastructure.

The minister stated that the sector’s transformation is not only driven by data and technology but also by a commitment to protection, preparedness, and progress.

He stressed that a modern, well-regulated, and well-equipped aviation system is essential for combating threats such as drug smuggling, money laundering, terrorism, and human trafficking, while ensuring safe and efficient mobility across the region.
