Following the success of ShattaFest 2025, a delegation from Shatta Wale’s management team paid a courtesy visit to Charterhouse Ghana Limited, producers of the event, to express their appreciation for the support.
During the interaction, Team Lead at ImageBureau, George Quaye proposed that Charterhouse consider creating a special non-competitive category within the TGMA to celebrate artistes of Shatta Wale’s calibre.
He explained that certain musicians, because of their impact and legacy, have reached a level where placing them in the same competitive categories as emerging acts may not feel appropriate.

“Imagine Shatta Wale being nominated alongside an up-and-coming artiste who has also done well in the year under review, and the younger artiste wins due to the voting dynamics. It’s not that the process is unfair, but it could feel uncomfortable considering the pedigree of someone like Shatta.
“Maybe we can look at a special category that honours artistes like him, something non-competitive that comes with a mini documentary or special recognition,” George Quaue said.
He stated that the concept could be modelled after the ‘Lifetime Achievement Award’, which recognises veteran musicians who have contributed to Ghana’s music industry over the years.
According to him, introducing such a category would not only honour deserving artistes but also strengthen the credibility of the awards scheme and reduce the controversies that often arise from public voting.
“Sometimes, when it comes to competitive categories, different dynamics come into play. The Board may have one opinion, the Academy another, and the public yet another. That’s when disagreements and fan-based tensions begin,” he noted.
Responding to the proposal, Theresah Ayoade, Chief Executive Officer of Charterhouse, acknowledged the suggestion and promised to present it to the TGMA Board for consideration.
“It’s a good idea, and we can only take it to the Board for discussion. One thing I can say is that the Telecel Ghana Music Awards is an evolving scheme. Over the past 26 years, it has grown and adapted, so introducing new concepts isn’t out of place,” she said.
