Former Chairperson of the Election Commission and Board Member of the Ghana Gas Limited Company (GNGLC), Charlotte Osei, has called on the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) to prioritise ethical reporting in the wake of recent tragic national events.

In a post shared on her X page on Monday, August 11, Charlotte Osei urged the GJA to organise training sessions for media professionals and bloggers aimed at strengthening ethical standards in news coverage, while ensuring respect for Ghana’s cultural values.

She noted that some recent media coverage of sensitive incidents has been insensitive, stressing the need for a more respectful approach.

“I implore the GJA to please organise training for media personnel and bloggers on ethical reporting that also respects our cultural values. We need to be more sensitive,” she stated.

Her comments come in the wake of growing public backlash over how certain news outlets have handled the coverage of the recent military helicopter crash, which claimed eight lives, particularly in relation to bereaved families.
