Legendary Ghanaian footballer Charles Taylor Asampong has raised concerns about the suspension of the Ghana Premier League following the demise of Asante Kotoko fan Francis Yaw Frimpong, popularly known as Pooley.
According to him, although the entire sports fraternity are seeking justice for the deceased’s killer, putting the local league on hold is not a wise decision.
The former Kotoko player opined that the longer the league remains suspended, the more players become rusty and lose form, which is a major concern.
Speaking on Angel TV, Charles Taylor called on football authorities and the bereaved family to ensure the Ghana Premier League resumes as soon as possible while investigations continue.
“I don’t see the essence of putting the league on hold for all this while. As much as we want justice for Pooley, we can resume the league to avoid players becoming rusty,” he said in Twi.
Meanwhile, Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku visited Kotoko to console the club following Pooley’s demise, stressing that he would do his utmost best to bring the perpetrator to justice as investigations are ongoing.
His meeting with Kotoko is seen as a step toward convincing the club to reconsider their decision to boycott competitive matches until justice is served.
Pooley was stabbed during Kotoko’s game against Nsoatreman on February 2, 2025.
The Ghana Police Service have arrested some individuals believed to be involved in the chaotic incident that led to the demise of the Asante Kotoko supporter.
