Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has praised his players for their determination and fighting spirit after Ghana secured qualification to the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.

Ghana booked their place at the tournament following a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Uganda in Kampala, progressing 3-2 on aggregate after winning the first leg 2-1 in Accra.

The Black Princesses endured a difficult encounter in the return fixture as Uganda grabbed an early lead to pile pressure on the visitors. Ghana’s challenge became even tougher late in the game when the team was reduced to 10 players following a red card.

However, the Black Princesses responded strongly, with Linda Owusu Ansah scoring the crucial away goal that ultimately secured qualification for Ghana.

Speaking after the match, Sampson commended the resilience shown by his side under difficult circumstances.

“The girls showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience and willingness beyond the normal. I am so proud of them,” he said.

The coach added that the team had overcome several challenges throughout the qualification campaign and deserved credit for their achievement.

“This group has been tested in so many ways, and to still come out and qualify after the red card and being a goal down shows great resilience and character,” Sampson stated.

The qualification marks Ghana’s eighth consecutive appearance at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.
