Paramedics reportedly had to rush into the Texas Longhorns’ game on Saturday to give aid to fans as they succumbed to the searing heat.

Arch Manning and the Longhorns hosted Texas State in their season opener but they were forced to play in stifling conditions in Austin with temperatures surpassing 100 degrees Fahrenheit.

That led to chaos in the stands and one fan posted a picture on social media of hundreds of people gathered inside the bowels of the stadium to get out of the sun.

Hunter Schuler claimed on X he hadn’t ‘seen anything like this in a long time’ and he’d ‘already seen paramedics bring four stretchers in’ during the first quarter.

‘People are huddled in the stadium like it’s a hurricane shelter,’ he added.

The Daily Mail has contacted the Texas Longhorns for comment.

So many heat casualties at this Texas State vs Texas game. I haven’t seen anything like this in a long time. Already seen paramedics bring 4 stretches in and it’s still Q1. People are huddled in the stadium like it’s a hurricane shelter. 2:30pm kickoff is a certified disaster. 🥵 pic.twitter.com/Z5DiZfgWy2

It was not the only college football game to be affected by the scorching heat on Saturday as the Division II game between Colorado School of Mines and Washburn was abandoned before overtime.

The game was tied at 16-16 before play was halted before overtime when temperatures reached 107 degrees. The game was later abandoned when there were was no indication it was going to cool down.

Manning passed for 305 yards and four touchdowns, including two to Cam Coleman, as No. 5 Texas eased into the season with a 59-7 win over Texas State.

Manning connected with Coleman for Texas’ first touchdown and with Ryan Wingo on the Longhorns’ next possession. Graceson Littleton’s 59-yard fumble return touchdown put Texas ahead 28-0 in the second quarter.

Coleman played his first two seasons at Auburn and was one of the top transfers in the country when he signed with Texas. He caught three passes for 70 yards in his Longhorns debut.

Raleek Brown, who transferred from Arizona State, also scored twice. Manning left the game in the third quarter with Texas leading 42-7.

Texas will host No. 1 Ohio State next week. The programs have an intense recent history. Ohio State beat Texas in the 2024 College Football Playoff semifinals, and again in the 2025 season opener.
