Andy Appiah Kubi, the lawyer for the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, has confirmed that his client has been hospitalised following Wontumi’s arrest and detention by the Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) detectives.

In an exclusive interview with JoyNews, Mr Kubi disclosed that Chairman Wontumi was rushed to the hospital after about six hours of interrogation by Economic and Organised Crime (EOCO) officials. “My client has been taken to hospital for medical treatment,” Mr Kubi announced.

Speaking on what transpired during the interrogation, Mr Kubi noted that Wontumi’s legal team gave their statements as required. He further stated that the NPP regional chairman answered all questions asked by the EOCO officials, including responses to allegations levelled against him.

He explained that Wontumi’s interrogation was not over. As such, they were hoping to return the next day, on May 28, 2025, to pick up from where they had left.

The lawyer was, however, categorical that they would not return to the EOCO headquarters for further interrogation if the politician’s health did not improve, insisting his client would only return once discharged by doctors.

“Nevertheless, we have also received this after a writ of summons from Axim Bank, and we are going to respond to the pleading tomorrow (May 28, 2025). I am very hopeful that we will be able to mount a defence of the writ,” Mr Kubi said in the interview with the media.
