Carlo Ancelotti, manager for Real Madrid

Renowned Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly decided to leave Real Madrid at the end of the 2024/25 season, despite being under contract until June 2026.

According to information from Spanish radio Onda Cero on Monday, January 20, 2025, the decision appears to be final and unaffected by the team’s success or potential trophies this season.

Despite this impending departure, Ancelotti continues to enjoy the trust and support of the club’s directors, who have stood by him during recent challenges faced by the team.

With Ancelotti’s reported exit, Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has emerged as the leading candidate to succeed him.

Alonso, currently under contract with Leverkusen until June 2026, is considered the favorite to take over the reins at Real Madrid.

Ancelotti will leave Real Madrid as the most decorated coach in the club’s history, having won an impressive 15 trophies over two spells.

Between 2013 and 2015, and again from 2021 to the present, Ancelotti has guided the team to three UEFA Champions League titles, two LaLiga championships, two Copa del Rey titles, two Spanish Supercopas, three UEFA Super Cups, two FIFA Club World Cups, and the Intercontinental Cup.
