Burkina Faso’s President, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, on Monday, August 4, 2025, hosted some of Africa’s most iconic football legends in Ouagadougou as part of the reopening ceremony of the August 4 Stadium.

The Head of State welcomed former African football stars, including Samuel Eto’o, El Hadji Diouf, Rigobert Song, Seydou Keita, and Emmanuel Adebayor, who all arrived in the Burkinabè capital for a week of football and solidarity.

In visuals shared widely online, the former stars were seen in an official photo session with Captain Traoré, who stood among them in military fatigues.

They also held a sit-down meeting with the president, where discussions appeared cordial and focused on youth, sports development, and unity on the continent.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Samuel Eto’o, President of the Cameroonian Football Federation, expressed deep admiration for the Burkinabè leader.

“First of all, we want to thank you for welcoming us into our home, into your home. We had the immense pleasure of being received by His Excellency the President of Burkina Faso, who is a source of pride for the Africa we love,” Eto’o said.

The visit was crowned with a charity match involving the African legends at the newly refurbished August 4 Stadium.
