Residents of Cape Coast and surrounding communities will experience a temporary power outage on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, as part of efforts to upgrade the region’s electricity infrastructure.

In a joint statement issued on January 16, 2026, the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) and the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) announced the final phase of works to install a 66MVA power transformer at the Cape Coast Substation.

The upgrade is expected to significantly boost the substation’s capacity, improve the reliability of electricity supply, and enhance overall power quality for homes and businesses in the area.

GRIDCo and ECG assured the public that all necessary measures are in place to complete the works promptly and restore power within the scheduled timeframe.

“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this temporary power interruption will cause.

“We assure the public of our continued commitment to deliver reliable and improved electricity transmission services,” the statement read.
