One of Cameroon’s brightest young talents is back on the pitch and ready to silence the doubters.

Nathan Doualla, the highly rated 19-year-old midfielder, has signed with Canon Sportif de Yaoundé after months in limbo since leaving Victoria United.

The deal is seen as a major coup for the Kpa-Kum, who has secured the services of a player many still believe could become a mainstay of Cameroon’s midfield for years to come.

Doualla’s arrival is expected to inject fresh creativity and vision into Canon Sportif’s engine room this season.

The comeback comes just weeks after Doualla was named Cameroon’s Best Young Player of the Season, an award that capped off a turbulent but impressive year.

While at Victoria United, Doualla caught the eye with his composure, passing range and technical flair, helping his side sit fifth in the top-flight table with 35 points from 24 matches before his exit.

But his rapid rise has not been without controversy. In 2023, the teenager was a surprise inclusion in Cameroon’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations.

Although he didn’t play a single minute as the Indomitable Lions exited in the Round of 16 to eventual runners-up Nigeria, his call-up sparked heated debate online, with questions raised about his age after photos of him went viral.

Those questions escalated into a scandal when Doualla was named among 62 players suspended by the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) for alleged double identification and age discrepancies.

Victoria United fiercely defended their star, dismissing the accusations as baseless and standing by his credentials.
