Hajia Amina Adam is the wife of the late Naser Toure Mahama

Some party stakeholders are pushing for the widow of the late MP, Hajia Amina Adam, to be considered as the party’s candidate for the contest.

With about six weeks to the March 3, 2026, by-election in the Ayawaso East constituency, internal discussions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) over a replacement for the late Member of Parliament, Naser Toure Mahama, are intensifying.

According to graphic.com report on January 19, 2026, the NDC Ayawaso East Zongo Caucus Coordinator, Mohammed Bashiru, popularly known as Alhaji Dantata, Ismail Abdul Razak, an aide to the late MP, and Hajia Sahadatu Alhassan, a member of the NDC National Communications Team and Head of Corporate Communications at the Ghana Railway Development Authority, have all publicly thrown their support behind Hajia Amina Adam.

According to them, their position is informed by her active involvement in party activities, her contributions during the 2024 general election, and her familiarity with the developmental and social issues affecting the constituency.

According to them, allowing Hajia Amina Adam to serve the remainder of her late husband’s term would ensure continuity and stability in the constituency’s representation, even though she has not publicly declared her intention to contest the by-election.

The push for the widow’s consideration follows earlier discussions within the constituency in which names such as Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed and Dr Yakubu Azindow, both of whom contested Naser Toure Mahama in the last NDC parliamentary primaries, were mentioned as possible replacement candidates.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission has set March 3, 2026, for the by-election to fill the vacant Ayawaso East parliamentary seat following the death of the incumbent MP.
