Nana Poku Ashis, manager of renowned highlife artiste Kwabena Kwabena, has called on Charterhouse to spearhead a nationwide celebration honouring the late highlife icon Daddy Lumba. He believes a befitting tribute should be held before the musician’s burial.

During an interview with Kwame Dadzie on Daybreak Hitz, Ashis proposed a star-studded concert, similar to the Ghana Music Awards, where artistes would perform Lumba’s songs in homage to his legacy.

“The iconic Lumba needs a national celebration and I am urging Charterhouse to lead this campaign. Try and put together an event where we will have our stars come and honour the legend,” he said.

Ashis emphasized the urgency of organizing the tribute before the funeral and predicted the event would draw massive public support.

“Before his burial, we should do something of that sort where we see [maybe] a Fameye or Kwabena Kwabena perform a Lumba song just like they do at the Ghana Music Awards. Even if it is a paid event, I am sure it will be a sold-out event,” he added.

Reflecting on Lumba’s cultural influence, Ashis recounted a conversation with a friend who remarked that the late musician was the only entertainer successive governments “feared.” According to Ashis, Lumba maintained a unique political neutrality that gave him a powerful presence across political lines.

“He is that guy that could be with you now, the next moment he was with the other person. And nobody dared touch Lumba. Other people did political songs and they were touched but he did and nothing happened to him.”
