Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured the public that the budget for the Black Stars’ upcoming matches against Chad and Madagascar will be provided.

As Ghana prepared for Matchday 5 and 6 of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, expectations were high for Adams to disclose the budget, especially after President John Mahama emphasized in his State of the Nation address that financial details for national teams should be made public.

However, in an interview, the Buem constituency MP explained why the budget had not yet been revealed.

He argued that making it public before the games could create unnecessary distractions that might affect the team’s performance.

“People were asking me to disclose the budget for the games, but I kept asking myself what will the budget do for the team ahead of the games?

“Sometimes, some situations create distraction for the team, so we should weigh every situation before making a decision.”

Despite the initial secrecy, Adams reassured Ghanaians that transparency would be maintained.

“The budget for the team will be made available. There is nothing to hide from the public, but we must know it is expensive to take care of the national team because most of the players are coming from Europe but apart from that, everything will be made available.”

The Black Stars will be hoping for a strong performance in their upcoming fixtures as they push for qualification to the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
