A British pensioner has been found alive in a ravine 30 hours after she went missing on a solo hike in Tenerife.

Susan Hornby, 76, had gone ‘off on a walk on her own’ while on holiday with her husband, Peter.

But family members raised the alarm when she failed to reply to messages – and  could not be located as she did not have ‘Find my iPhone enabled’ on her phone.

Ms Hornby, from Dorset, was found today in a dehydrated state, fearing for her life.

She was airlifted to hospital where she received urgent medical attention, The Sun reports.

Louise Bakewell, a family friend, had posted a message online after becoming concerned as the pensioner had not been heard from since the early hours of the morning – having embarked on a walk that normally takes around three hours.

Ms Bakewell wrote: ‘My sister-in-law’s mother, Susan Hornby, aged 76, has gone missing after a walk on her own.

‘She was wearing a red coat and a white hat.

‘We have contacted the police but the language barrier is difficult.’

Ms Bakewell later shared the good news that Ms Hornby had been found.

She wrote on Facebook: ‘She was found in a ravine and has been airlifted to hospital.

‘Thank you for your help and service. What a wonderful group of people—my faith in humanity has been well and truly restored.’

Speaking of how the misadventure came about, Ms Bakewell added: ‘Just to clarify – she went off on a walk alone and then became unwell. She did have Find My iPhone enabled on her phone. Please tell your friends and relatives to always enable this if they can, just to be safe.’

It is believed Ms Hornby had been walking near Benijo Beach in Tenerife’s Anaga Rural Park – renowned for its stunning volcanic scenery, powerful waves and picturesque sunsets.

Back in September, another pensioner went missing on holiday – for nearly 48 hours after vanishing on a night out on the Costa del Sol.

Clifford Wildgoose, 76, had last been spotted at Patrick’s 19th Hole Bar in Puerto Banus.

Fortunately, an American tourist recognised him and phoned up his daughter, Melanie Hall.

Ms Hall said at the time: ‘To say I’m delighted is an understatement.

‘I got straight on the phone to police and they went to pick him up and have taken him to hospital.’

She had previously said she was ‘beside herself with worry’ following Mr Wildgoose’s disappearance.
