George Russell is lucky to still be in this race after spinning on approach to the Hangar Straight.

Looks like it was a wise move to have stayed on intermediate tyres.

Alonso pits – Lap 38/52

Fernando Alonso has pitted for another set of slicks in what could be a litmus test for the rest of the field as to whether or not they should move onto dry tyres.

He looks to be struggling however.

Hamilton primed to overtake Hulkenberg – Lap 37/52

Sky Sports have just said that things look good for Hamilton in his pursuit of yet another British GP podium.

That would be some result for the Brit given his tumultuous start to life at Ferrari so far

Verstappen overtakes Sainz – Lap 35/52

Max Verstappen has now moved up into ninth after voertaking the Williams of Carlos Sainz

Three way battle for final podium spot – Lap 35/52

Stroll, Hulkenberg and Hamilton are locked in a three way battle for the final step on the podium.

You get the feeling that all of them would be ecstatic to finish there – but it can only be one of them as they are separated by just 3.5 seconds.

Norris gaining on Piastri – Lap 32/52

Lando Norris took six-tenths out of Oscar Piastri’s lead un that last lap.

Lance Stroll in third place is over 20 seconds behind – meaning McLaren still look set for a one-two finish

Oscar Piastri is handed a 10-second time penalty – making Lando Norris the de-facto leader of the British Grand Prix.

He will now be severely compromised in terms of his rear downforce.

Hamilton struggling with tyre temperatures – Lap 20/52

Lewis though, appears to be struggling with his tyre temperatures, with his wheels begging for some heat.

They won’t be getting it in these kinds of conditions, mind.

That comes as Oscar Piastri – who leads the race – is complaining of a large puddle at Turn Two.

Vintage Lewis Hamilton, there, with a brilliant move to take former teammate George Russell and Esteban Ocon in one fell swoop.

Isack Hadjar out with Safety Car back out – Lap 18/52

Isack Hadjar has had a big shunt after ramming into the back of Kimi Antonelli

And the Safety Car is now back out – thankfully both drivers are ok

Racing again – Lap 18/52

It’s go go go agan! Immediately George Russell has got past Lewis Hamilton.

But they come out on top over Esteban Ocon who loses two places.

Oscar Piastri has already built a two-second lead and he looks imperious.

Safety Car in this lap – Lap 17/52

Lewis Hamilton – who is currently in eight – has complained of the ‘dangerous’ conditions on the circuit.

His views have been echoed by fellow Brit George Russell who wants a red flag.

But the Safety Car will now be coming in and we can soon go racing again.

Alonso not happy – Lap 16/52

Fernando Alonso is on the radio to complain that his team ‘never get it right’ with him – the Spaniard clearly unhappy that team-mate Lance Stroll is running in P6.

It doesn’t look like the Safety Car will be staying out for long – the rain has now eased slightly compared to how it was looking over the previous two laps.

Bortoleto, Colapinto and Lawson are the ones to have retired so far and you suspect they will not be the last.

It has stopped raining at the Aston Martin factory near the circuit….time for Mr Blue Sky to be played if you’re a superstitious viewer

The Safety Car has now been called out with the rain falling down heavily and that really is no surprise given the conditions

McLaren have just told Lando Norris they expect rain for at least the next ten minutes

It is now lashing it down in some parts of the track – wets might be required soon…

Russell’s gamble not paying off – Lap 12/52

Here comes the rain. And it’s heavy this time. Russell’s big gamble has failed big time.

Slow stop for Norris – Lap 12/52

But now Lando is behind Max once again after a slow stop as he put on a fresh set of intermediate tyres

Norris overtakes Verstappen – Lap 11/52

Norris is now approaching Verstappen who is enduring a torrid time of things at the moment. And the Dutchman goes wide to see Norris pass him – both now pitting

Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc has overtaken Kimi Antonelli.

Piastri flying – Lap 10/52

Oscar Piastri is absolutely flying now. One moment he was past Verstappen, the next he has motored more than four seconds clear of the Dutchman. The rest of the field will be praying for rain to shake things up a bit.

The safety car will lead the way on the formation lap – which may come as a perplexing decision given the impending dry weather

This weather seems scarcely believable given the heat we saw earlier this week but that is Britain for you!
