Brentford forward Yoane Wissa is set to testify in a French court this week, where a woman is on trial for allegedly throwing acid at the DR Congo international.

The four-day trial, which began in Lorient on Tuesday, will have Wissa attend proceedings for two days.

According to allegations presented in court, the defendant, Laetitia P., threw acid at Wissa’s face and attempted to abduct his infant daughter during the 2021 incident.

She faces charges of attempted murder, child kidnapping, and attempted kidnapping, which could result in a prison sentence of up to 30 years if convicted.

Laetitia P. is also accused of attacking another woman in Vannes the following day and abducting her infant. The 28-year-old player required emergency facial surgery after the acid attack, with initial fears of permanent damage to his eyesight.

The incident took place just a month before Wissa’s transfer to Brentford. His lawyer, Karim Morand-Lahouazi, stated, “Yoane continues to experience the lasting effects of this traumatic attack and attempted kidnapping.”

Meanwhile, Wissa’s career remains in the spotlight amid intense transfer speculation. Nottingham Forest recently had a £22 million bid for the forward rejected.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his future, Wissa recently cemented his legacy at Brentford by becoming the club’s all-time top Premier League scorer when he scored in Brentford’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City.
