BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing, the world’s largest bare knuckle boxing promotion in the world, has announced a massive heavyweight world championship main event for BKB 58: Miami, which takes place at the James L. Knight Center this Saturday, August 29th.
Reigning BKB Heavyweight Champion Gustavo “The Cuban Assassin” Trujillo will now defend his title against multi-promotion world champion Mick “The Butcher of Shields” Terrill in one of the biggest matchup in bare knuckle boxing history.
Fresh off a first-round KO win over Florian De La Motte at BKB 57: London back in July, Terrill was set to sit ringside as commentator for Saturday’s card, when he learned of heavyweight title challenger Mark O’Neill being forced to withdraw from the fight due to visa issues. With an opportunity presenting itself, Terrill called for a shot against Trujillo and the heavyweight title, and got what he asked for on just a few days’ notice.
Terrill comes in with an 11-2 record, with all of his wins coming by way of knockout. Standing between him and another world championship is Trujillo, BKB’s reigning heavyweight king who has an undefeated 8-0 record, with all of his wins coming by way of first round knockout.
David Tetreault, CEO of BKB Bare Knuckle Boxing, said: “This is exactly what BKB is about. Real fighters, real fights, no waiting around. Mick Terrill wanted a world title shot, so we’re giving him one, and it doesn’t get more 50/50 than a man that brave against a champion that dangerous. Straight in, let’s go, Miami. If you don’t have your tickets yet, get them now, because the last ones are about to fly out the door.”
Mick Terrill said: “The second I heard Mark was out, I knew this was my moment, so I demanded they put me in. I’ve always said I’ll fight any man, any time, any where. Here’s the proof. I’ve wanted this title for a long time and now I can prove why I’m the number one heavyweight in bare knuckle boxing. This is my shot and I’m taking it. Miami, get ready. I’m on my way.”
Gustavo Trujillo said: “Be careful what you wish for. Mick wanted this fight so badly, and now he’s got it. Eight opponents made the same mistake of getting in that ring with me and none of them saw round two.”
With the main event set, the co-main event will now feature the bare knuckle boxing debut of Olympic gold medalist and former two-division boxing world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, who meets Yesner Talavera.
Saturday’s stacked card also includes the BKB debut of UFC veteran Aspen Ladd against Bianca Daimoni, while hometown favorite Robert Duran Jr., son of boxing legend Roberto Duran, takes on Ryan Spivey.
