Brooklyn’s own former IBF Super Lightweight World Champion Richardson “Africa” Hitchins will return to his community on Sunday, September 6, to host “Fight for Your Future,” a free back-to-school community giveaway designed to help local students start the new school year prepared, confident, and motivated.
The event will take place from 2:00–4:00 p.m. at Gym X Boxing, 59 Malcolm X Boulevard, Brooklyn, NY 11221.
Hitchins will provide local children and families with free backpacks filled with essential school supplies, while creating an afternoon centered around health, education, mentorship, and boxing.
In addition to the school-supply giveaway, attendees will have the opportunity to participate in a mini boxing clinic, take free photos with Hitchins, and receive autographs from the Brooklyn champion.
“Fight for Your Future” reflects Hitchins’ belief that the same discipline, determination, and commitment required to become a champion in the ring can help young people succeed in the classroom and in life.
“I know what it means to grow up in Brooklyn with nothing but being able to have people in your corner meant the world to me,” said Richardson Hitchins. “I want these kids to know that they can be champions in whatever they choose to do. Boxing has taught me discipline, confidence and how to keep fighting when things get difficult. That’s the message I want to share with them as they head back to school.”
The afternoon will give young attendees the chance to experience boxing firsthand, meet a former world champion, and leave with the tools they need for the school year.
