Argentine Diego Sánchez (13-1-1, 4 KOs), 22, defeated the experienced Venezuelan Leonardo Uzcátegui (27-11-3, 20 KOs), 27, via a sixth-round knockout to claim the South American super lightweight title at an event held at the Argentine Boxing Federation stadium in Buenos Aires.
Early in the fight, the two fighters traded exchanges while Sánchez tried to cut off the ring and limit the Venezuelan’s movement; he managed to score a knockdown in the fifth round. Although Uzcátegui recovered, Sánchez went all-out in the sixth round to overcome him and end the bout.
On the same card, the powerful Argentine and standout former amateur Milagros Herrera (8-0-0), 24, secured a convincing, wide victory over her compatriot Mia Soledad Nievas, 24, via unanimous decision (99-91, 99-91, 99-91) to win the WBC Latino bantamweight title.
