Unbeaten Japanese southpaw Ryusei Matsumoto (9-0, 4 KOs), 105, acquired the interim WBO minimumweight belt by winning a unanimous decision (115-113, 116-112, 118-110) over previously undefeated Mexican Russell Acosta (17-1, 6 KOs), 104,75, over twelve fast-moving rounds on Sunday in Tokyo, Japan. Ryusei displayed faster hands in combination to the stationary Mexican, who occasionally threw a stronger punch at a time but couldn’t catch the elusive target except in round four and seven. Steadily piling up points, Matsumoto kept moving to-and-fro to score with quick combinations to the face and the midsection. The referee was Roberto Ramirez Jr. from Puerto Rico.
