Jokin Garcia (15-2-1) won the vacant EBU lightweight title with a controversial split decision over Salvi Jiminez (15-3-1) Saturday night in Bilbao in an all-Spanish matchup.
Jiminez floored Garcia in the second round, and reports indicate that it wasn’t until the fifth round that Garcia got going.
However, in the end, the scores were 116-111 and 115-112 for Garcia, and 116-111 for Jiminez.
The new champ has Frenchman Laid Douadi (28-1-1) as his mandatory challenger.
