Opening the main card Guido Vianello took on underdog Moses Jolly in what was a late addition to this card in an eight-rounder which started at a frantic pace. Vianello’s pedigree showed early however the Welshman was relishing the opportunity to put his name in the heavyweight mix with a competitive showing. Jolly had a swagger, strutting towards the Italian throughout the bout. In round five the referee called in the doctor after seeing Vianello bleed heavily from his left ear. After a fast-paced six rounds the pair slowed down in round seven. You’d be forgiven for thinking Jolly was the experienced favourite as he was the one dancing around the ring whilst Guido gasped for air at every opportunity. As the fighters joined the referee for the scorecards Vianello’s body language was telling us he didn’t believe he’d won this bout and he was correct. The referee scored this 76-76. On 15 days notice Moses Jolly has done himself proud and remains undefeated.
Constantin Ursu successfully defended his British and Commonwealth titles against ‘The Bomber’ Ben Vaughan. The Moldovan Monster was widely regarded as British boxing’s best kept secret but he is quickly becoming well known around the globe. By the fifth round Vaughan wore a crimson mask as he struggled to see anything other than blood after a clash of heads produced a gruesome cut above his right eye. Vaughan was as game as they come but Ursu was always a level above which was clear from his punch selection, he’s a really dangerous fighter when he’s in his groove. The doctor was called back at the start of round eight who sensibly called off the fight considering Vaughan unable to continue due to his compromised vision.
Albanian favourite, Nelson Hysa took on the undefeated knockout artist Thomas Narmo who entered this fight with a 100% KO ratio. Someone’s 0 had to go, if you blinked you missed it, as Hysa wiped out Narmo in the second round with the first clean shot he landed. There was talks that Hysa could fight Tyson Fury and at the age of 41 he has to be fast tracked now and it is a fight that’s easily made by Frank Warren.
