Cuban power puncher Yoenli Hernandez took on capable Argentine Francisco Daniel Veron in a scheduled 10 round middleweight affair. While Veron kept busy and landed his fair share of punches, Hernandez appeared impervious to almost every blow that touched him.
Be that as it may, Veron came out on fire to start the 5th which brought the crowd to life. After his initial flurry died down, the crowd was wowed again as Hernandez landed a big shot on Veron. To his credit, Veron wasn’t going anywhere either. Suddenly with less than 30 seconds left, the crowd was excited once more as Veron stunned Hernandez with a big left hook which sent him wobbling to the ropes.
Veron continued to play the spoiler, keeping busy, if not hurting Hernandez then at least frustrating him. Hernandez continued trying to impose his strength but was often throwing unorthodox punches, off the wrong foot and at times just plain reckless.
Both men finished strong and as he had done at the end of several rounds before, Veron pumped his fist in the air. The decision was majority:
95-95, 98-92, 99-91 for Hernandez, who improves to 11-0, 9 KOs, while Veron falls to 17-2-1, 10 KOs.
