Boxing returned to the Santa Monica Pier on Saturday night as Los Angeles lightweight Jalan Walker (17-1-1, 11 KOs) earned a ten-round unanimous decision over Alexander Espinoza (24-10-3, 8 KOs) of Managua, Nicaragua, in the main event of Bash Boxing’s Fightbook Butterfly Brawl 3 on the beach in Santa Monica, California.
Walker was sharp from the opening bell, displaying good hand speed and combinations while boxing effectively against the tough Nicaraguan. Espinoza held his own and went the distance.
Steven Navarro KOs McKinley in 5
East Los Angeles super flyweight Steven Navarro (9-1, 6 KOs) scored a fifth-round knockout over Delvin McKinley (15-6-1, 14 KOs) in the evening’s co-feature bout. Navarro was sharp from the opening bell, dropping McKinley four times en route to the stoppage win. The bout was stopped at 1:39 of the fifth round.
Garcia Upsets Evans
In an upset, Mexican super lightweight Moises Garcia (8-6-3, 4 KOs) of Puebla, Mexico, scored a fifth-round knockout over DeAngelo Evans (15-1, 14 KOs), handing Evans his first defeat.
Garcia was aggressive from the start, and in the fifth round, a crunching left hook to the body did the job as Evans hit the canvas and stayed down for the count. Referee Gerard White reached the count of ten at 1:39 of the fifth round.
Andy Dominguez KOs Neider Valdez in 2
Flyweight Andy Dominguez (14-1, 7 KOs), of New York City by way of Mexico City, scored a second-round knockout over Neider Valdez (15-5-3, 12 KOs). Dominguez floored Valdez twice in the second round before referee Ray Corona had seen enough and waved off the bout at 2:24 of the round.
Other Bouts
Atascadero, California, featherweight Joseph Subia (5-1-1, 3 KOs) handed Stockton, California’s Gabriel Alexander Torres (6-1, 4 KOs) his first defeat, winning a unanimous decision. Subia took the fight to Torres, outworking the previously undefeated fighter over six rounds en route to the decision victory by scores of 60-54, 59-55, and 59-55.
Super welterweight prospect Ebenezer Griffith (9-0, 3 KOs) of Louisville, Kentucky, won a unanimous decision over Colombia’s Yeis Solano (15-7, 10 KOs). Griffith was dominant throughout the fight, outclassing the Colombian over ten rounds en route to the decision victory. After ten rounds, the judges scored the bout 80-72, 80-72, and 79-73.
Middleweight Sebastian Terteryan (2-0, 1 KO) of Armenia won a unanimous decision over Josias Gonzalez (2-8-2). Terteryan cruised past Gonzalez, taking him the four-round distance in a workmanlike performance. All three judges scored the bout 40-36. Sebastian Terteryan is the brother of Nikolai Terteryan and is also promoted by Golden Boy Promotions.
Golden Boy Promotions middleweight prospect Nikolai Terteryan (4-0, 4 KOs) made quick work of Cristian Perez Hernandez (12-6-1, 7 KOs). A crunching body shot finished off Hernandez as referee Ray Corona reached the count of ten at 1:35 of the opening round.
Super middleweight Tommy Hyde (14-0, 9 KOs) of Ireland annihilated Vaughn Williams (13-3, 8 KOs), scoring a fourth-round knockout. Hyde dropped Williams twice in the third round before finishing him off in the fourth. The bout was stopped 41 seconds into the fourth round.
Long Beach super lightweight Criztec Bazaldua (8-2, 3 KOs) scored a third-round knockout over Sachin Rohila (8-6, 2 KOs). A left uppercut by Bazaldua did the job, sending Rohila to the canvas as the referee reached the count of ten at 2:23 of the third round.
San Fernando Valley lightweight Jason Robledo (2-1) won a unanimous decision over Fresno, California’s David Reyes (3-9-1, 2 KOs). Robledo was efficient in going the four-round distance against the tough Reyes. All three judges scored the bout 40-36.
