As part of the “Special 10th Anniversary Celebration: Fighter’s Heaven in Art and Literature”, we are excited to be hosting the highly anticipated book release of author Todd Mealy’s new book: “Fighter’s Heaven: Inside the Camp Where Muhammad Ali Remade His Legacy”. Todd is an educator, historian, and
accomplished author specializing in sports and civil rights history. He has visited the camp many times and has spent the last few years extensively researching the history behind Ali’s historic training camp and interviewing people with stories about Ali and the Deer Lake camp.
He is the author of thirteen books, including Shades of Brown: The Biography of Jane Elliot and the Blue Eyes, Brown Eyes Exercise. He is also the founder of the National Institute for Customizing Education and curriculum writer for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Nonviolent Social Change.
According to the book’s description: Fighter’s Heaven retraces Ali’s footsteps through this extraordinary place, revealing how a secluded mountain retreat became the staging ground for his comeback and the foundation of his enduring legacy. Drawing on personal letters, memoirs, and new interviews with those who knew Ali best, historian Todd M. Mealy offers an intimate, behind-the-scenes portrait of Ali during these pivotal years that shaped one of the most transcendent figures of the twentieth century.

As part of this day’s special events, we will also be hosting the premier exhibition of artist mark Dickens “Fighter’s Heaven in Art”, a new collection of 12 mixed-media painting created in collaboration with Ali’s legendary training camp Fighter’s Heaven.
