Botswana’s Olympian, Letsile Tebogo, has been announced as the men’s World Athlete of the Year at the World Athletics Awards 2024.

The 21-year-old won Botswana’s first Olympic gold medal in the 200m race at the Paris Games with a record time of 19.46s, marking a historic era.

The athlete continued his exploits as he reached the men’s 4×400 metres final, where his outstanding final leg earned him a silver medal with an African record of 2:54.53s.

While addressing the audience after receiving the accolade, Tebogo expressed his appreciation to his team for their unflinching support that aided him in reaching this level.

He indicated that he will continue to train assiduously to achieve higher heights in his sporting endeavors to make Africa proud.

“It feels good to know that what you have been putting in throughout the year is now giving you some of the fruits that you have been waiting for.

“I’m grateful for the team that was around me. I believe the next year is going to be a different Letsile; he’s going to be a changed and a mature one,” he said, as reported by worldathletics.org.
