The body ‘wearing a wetsuit’ has been found washed up on a popular beach the day after coastguards were seen scouring the area.

Emergency services were called out to search the water off Eastbourne on Friday afternoon.

However, it was not until the following morning at around 8am that the body was discovered near the pier.

An eyewitness claimed they thought the body was wearing a wetsuit.

Sussex Police said the death is not being treated as suspicious and her next of kin have been informed.

A spokesperson for the RNLI said the inshore lifeboat was called out on Friday afternoon.

‘Solent Coastguard requested our volunteer crew to assist with a multi-agency search after unattended items had been located towards the west of Eastbourne.

‘The ILB carried out a shoreline search alongside local Coastguard Rescue Teams, the coastguard helicopter ‘Rescue 363′ and Sussex Police officers.’
