Boakye Agyarko has called for unity ahead of the NPP’s presidential primaries

Former Energy Minister and economist, Boakye Agyarko, has appealed to delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to uphold unity, discipline and integrity as they head into the party’s presidential primaries on Saturday, January 31, 2026.

In a message to party members ahead of the vote, Agyarko described the exercise as a critical moment in the party’s history.

“Tomorrow’s vote is not just an election. It is a profound test of our unity, an opportunity for renewal and a defining moment for the future of our beloved party,” he stated.

With five aspirants, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Kennedy Agyapong, Dr Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Kwabena Agyei-Agyepong, contesting to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, Agyarko reminded delegates of the party’s heritage and responsibility.

“Our great party, founded over three decades ago by visionaries who liberated Ghana from tyranny, stands firmly on its core principles such as respect for rule of law, justice and equality before the law,” he said.

He urged all stakeholders to conduct themselves appropriately throughout the process.

“The life of our party rests in our hands. I therefore appeal to all delegates, candidates, party officers and supervisors: let us act our very best and ensure discipline, fairness and wholesome conduct throughout the day,” he added.

Agyarko also stressed the importance of unity after the results are declared.

“The election will produce one winner; I urge us all to accept the outcome in good faith. Let us rally unreservedly behind the winner with the same passion we showed for our preferred candidate,” he said.

He further advised the eventual winner to act in humility and recognise “the indispensability of the other contestants, if the party is to reclaim power in 2028.”
