Newly-appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has announced his first squad ahead of the Black Stars’ international pre-World Cup friendly against Mexico, slated for later this month.

The squad reflects a mix of emerging talents and experienced players, with the coach selecting individuals from Europe, the domestic league, and the current Ghana U-23 side preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games qualifiers. The selection signals a clear intent to assess depth and build a competitive team for future assignments.

Among the notable inclusions are Majeed Ashimeru, Felix Afena-Gyan, who was last seen in May last year for the Unity Cup alongside Birmingham City’s Ibrahim Osman.

AS Saint-Étienne duo of Augustine Boakye and Ebenezer Annan have also been handed call-ups.

Queiroz has also rewarded a number of exciting young talents based in Europe, including Prince Amoako Junior of FC Nordsjaelland, Belgian-based Joseph Opoku, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi of Stoke City, and Brazil-based Francis Amuzu.

From the domestic scene, six players have earned places in the squad. Goalkeepers Solomon Agbasi and Gidios Aseako of Dreams FC are included, while outfield players Razak Simpson, Ebenezer Abban, Ebenezer Adade, and in-form Salim Adams complete the local contingent.

Several key senior players have been left out of the squad as they remain engaged with their clubs in the closing stages of the season.

The friendly against Mexico is scheduled for Friday, May 22, and will provide Queiroz with his first opportunity to assess his new group ahead of upcoming competitions.

    Below is the full squad:
