The Black Stars of Ghana have been drawn in Group C of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers alongside Côte d’Ivoire, Gambia and Somalia.

The draw took place on May 19, 2026, at the CAF headquarters in Cairo, where the 48 participating nations were divided into twelve groups of four teams each.

Former Nigeria captain William Troost-Ekong conducted the draw alongside African football legends Max Gradel, Tresor Mputu and Essam El Hadary.

Only the top two teams from each group will qualify for the 2027 AFCON tournament which will be held in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, setting up a crucial qualification battle for Ghana.

The Black Stars will be desperate to return to Africa’s biggest football competition after suffering the embarrassment of missing out on the last AFCON tournament. Ghana finished bottom of their qualification group without a single win in a campaign that included Angola, Sudan and Niger.

That disappointing qualifying run brought heavy criticism from supporters and increased pressure on the national team setup.

However, with a refreshed squad and renewed ambition ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, many Ghanaians will hope the Black Stars can bounce back strongly and secure a return to the AFCON stage.

Ghana are expected to face their toughest challenge in the group against reigning African champions Côte d’Ivoire, while Gambia and Somalia complete the group standings.
