Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has joined the ranks of footballers who have both played at the FIFA World Cup and coached their national teams in two editions of the competition.

The former Borussia Dortmund coach represented Ghana at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, helping the team to make a historic appearance in the Round of 16.

Afterwards, he transitioned into scouting for Dortmund and the Black Stars before venturing into full-time coaching.

In 2022, he returned as head coach of the Black Stars, defeating Nigeria in the play-offs to qualify for the World Cup and leading the team in the tournament.

Unfortunately, in a group with South Korea, Portugal, and Uruguay, the team exited at the group stage, after which he stepped down.

Otto did not give up on his coaching ambitions but continued learning and gaining expertise at Dortmund. In 2024, he was given a second chance as Black Stars head coach.

He went on to lead the team to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, recording six wins, one draw, and no defeat.

Otto Addo has now join the club of African players who played and qualified their teams to the World Cup.

On the global stage, he joins legends such as Mário Zagallo (Brazil), Franz Beckenbauer (Germany), Didier Deschamps (France), Carlos Bilardo (Argentina), Rudi Völler (Germany), and Jürgen Klinsmann (Germany).

This historic feat places Otto Addo among the best coaches on the continent.
