Roger De Sá, assistant coach of the Ghana national football team, has expressed confidence that the Black Stars can progress beyond the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup if the players perform to their full potential.

Ghana will be making a fifth appearance at the global tournament, which will be hosted by United States, Canada and Mexico. Expectations remain high after the Black Stars suffered group stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 editions.

Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, De Sá highlighted the importance of discipline, teamwork and commitment under head coach Carlos Queiroz.

“We are here to do our best and make Ghanaians happy. If Carlos does his job, there is none better than him,” the South African tactician stated.

He added that Ghana possess a realistic chance of advancing if the players deliver consistently during the tournament.

The Black Stars have been drawn in Group L alongside England national football team, Croatia national football team and Panama national football team.

Ghana will open their World Cup campaign against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before taking on England in Boston on June 23. Their final group game will be against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.

As part of preparations for the tournament, Ghana will play international friendlies against Mexico national football team on May 22 and Wales national football team on June 2.

Queiroz is expected to announce his final squad on June 1 as Ghana intensify preparations for the tournament.
