Kofi Adams is the Minister of Sports and Recreation

The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that his review of the Black Stars’ budget for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers saved the nation about $700,000.

According to him, scrutinising the team’s budget and cutting unnecessary expenses saved funds that could be redirected into other sporting disciplines.

The Member of Parliament for the Buem constituency also revealed that the ministry previously budgeted GH¢2 million for games, but through rationalization, this figure has now been reduced drastically to GH¢1.3 million.

Speaking with Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang during her visit to the sports ministry, Kofi Adams assured that the exercise will continue, as it has instilled confidence in the squad.

“Your Excellency, the Black Stars budget rationalization was done in collaboration with the FA to ensure proper budgeting and release processes. This has saved close to $700,000 in two games involving the Black Stars.

“In the past, the ministry used to spend almost GH¢2 million, but with this rationalization, we are spending GH¢1.3 million for two outings of the senior national team. All these measures have gone a long way to build confidence. The players did not suffer, the technical team did not suffer,” he told the media.

President John Dramani Mahama, as part of his policies, stated that all budgets pertaining to the national teams will be rationalised before approval to curb overspending.
