The Black Queens of Ghana

The Black Queens have slipped to 67th in the latest FIFA Women’s World Rankings, despite their impressive performance at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

They dropped one spot from their previous ranking of 66th but they maintained their sixth-place position in Africa.

Their sixth-place standing on the continent remains unchanged after the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) tournament in Morocco, where they secured a bronze medal.

This ranking reflects their recent consistent performance in Africa, even as they face tough competition globally.

Kim Lars Bjorkegren’s side finished third on their return to continental football for the first time since 2018, beating South Africa to claim bronze medal.

Ghana suffered two defeats in the competition, coming in the group stage against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa and in the semifinals against hosts Morocco. With the tournament held in North Africa, interest in both the matches and best betting sites in Morocco spiked significantly, as local fans followed the action closely.

The drop in the rankings comes as a surprise to many Ghanaians considering the team’s performance at the tournament finishing above teams like Zambia and South Africa.
