The Black Galaxies are traveling to Togo for an international friendly as part of their preparations for the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier against Nigeria.
The team is aiming to secure qualification for a tournament they have yet to win.
The Black Galaxies will face a Nigerian side that failed to qualify for the last two editions of the tournament, in 2021 and 2023, in a two-legged tie.
To boost their readiness, the team will play a friendly against Togo, giving coach Didi Dramani an opportunity to assess his squad.
The team has been in camp at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence, where they have already played several friendlies. Notably, they secured a commanding 5-0 win against Northern City.
In that match, some of the team’s standout players shone, with Stephen Amankona scoring a hat trick and Hamza Issah and Abdul Rahman also finding the net.
The Black Galaxies remain the only side in CHAN’s brief history to reach the finals twice without winning the title.
If they are to change their fortunes, they must deliver a strong performance against Nigeria on Saturday, December 21, 2024. The return leg is scheduled to take place between December 27 and December 29, 2024.
Coach Dramani will look to draw inspiration from Ghana’s previous victory over Nigeria in the qualifiers for the 2023 CHAN tournament as he seeks to secure a spot in the 2025 CHAN tournament, which will be jointly hosted by Tanzania, Kenya, and Uganda.
