The NPP’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for Cape Coast North, Ekow Awusi, has accused former Minister of Environment, Professor Kwabena Frempong Boateng, of harbouring bitterness, which allegedly led him to write what he called a fake anti-galamsey report to discredit the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Akufo-Addo government.

Prof Frempong Boateng, who is facing a dismissal charge from the NPP over his recent description of the party as “fake,” authored a damning report against the then Akufo-Addo government’s fight against galamsey. The report, according to Awusi, was used as a weapon by the opposition in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

Speaking on Metro TV’s Good Evening Ghana on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, Prof Frempong Boateng, while discussing issues surrounding missing excavators associated with the anti-galamsey fight which he superintended, accused Ekow Awusi, his former subordinate, of selling some of the excavators.

However, Ekow Awusi, who served as Director of Operations of GalamStop, an inter-ministerial anti-galamsey task force has also alleged that Prof Frempong Boateng merely pretended to be an anti-galamsey crusader.

He further accused the former Minister of abetting illegal mining by failing to disclose seized gold and by releasing confiscated excavators belonging to his relative.

“You deliberately put in a fake report in an election year just to discredit the NPP and the government out of bitterness,” Awusi said in a viral video in which he confronted Prof Frempong Boateng on several galamsey-related and internal NPP issues.

Ekow Awusi revealed that, as the field officer who reported directly to the Minister who he claimed was never on the field none of the reports he submitted were captured in the Minister’s final report.

“You were never in the forest. I was the one there, and I gave you all the reports. What you put in your report was fake and concocted by you just to discredit the NPP and the government out of bitterness,” he stated.

“I challenge you to sue me if you deny what I’m saying,” the 2024 NPP parliamentary candidate added.

Ekow Awusi further accused Prof Frempong Boateng of diverting seized gold and aiding galamsey activities by releasing confiscated excavators allegedly belonging to his son.

“All the gold we seized, we handed over to you. Where is all the seized gold we gave you?” he questioned.

“Whenever we arrested and seized excavators, you came in and had them released. Little did we know they belonged to Joojo Frempong Boateng. Go and sue me if this is not true,” Awusi alleged.

“You were supposed to fight galamsey, but your own son was a chief galamseyer. You were benefiting. Some of the things you did at the ministry some of us have remained quiet because of the party,” he added.
