Fresh details have emerged about the final days of Ghana’s celebrated gospel musician Yaw Sarpong, following accounts from a clergyman who says he was closely involved in the singer’s care before his death.

Bishop JY Adu, founder of the New Jerusalem Chapel, has opened up about his interactions with Yaw Sarpong during the period of illness that preceded the gospel legend’s passing. According to him, the situation surrounding the musician’s health shifted dramatically after the death of Maame Tiwaa, a close associate.

In an interview on Adom TV and later shared on TikTok, Bishop Adu explained that Yaw Sarpong was removed from his care by his children just a day after news broke of Maame Tiwaa’s death. He said the move came at a time when the musician was still recovering and needed consistent medical attention.

The bishop disclosed that he made several attempts to dissuade the family from relocating Yaw Sarpong, warning that the change could be risky given his condition. He added that even after suggesting that any new caregiver could continue treatment at his residence, the family declined.

“When Tiwaa passed away on December 7, on December 8, the children of Yaw Sarpong came to my church and said they were taking their father away. I told them not to do that and even advised them that whoever was going to take care of him should come to my premises and do so, but they refused,” he said.

Bishop Adu also revealed that arrangements had already been put in place for Yaw Sarpong’s life after recovery. He disclosed that the musician’s sister, who lives abroad, had built a house for him to occupy once he regained his strength. He added that Maame Tiwaa had similar plans made for her future living situation.

“Yaw Sarpong has a sister living abroad, and she has built a house for him to live in when he is healed. Even Maame Tiwaa, whose child lives in Germany, also had a house built for her to live in.

“So we were waiting for the perfect time for them to heal before letting them go. I even pleaded with the children not to take him away, but they refused. They took all his belongings away; it really pained me,” Bishop Adu further stated.
