Bishop Boxing Promotions has announced the signing of WBO Africa Superlightweight Champion Faisal “Poncho Power” Abubakari and rising prospect Majid Yakubu.

The strategic additions mark a key step in the promotion’s mission to revitalize Ghana’s boxing scene by combining established championship experience with next-generation talent.

Abubakari, current WBO Africa Superlightweight titleholder, brings regional prestige and veteran leadership to Bishop’s roster.

Majid Yakubu, a promising young contender, joins with ambitions to climb the ranks under Bishop’s development program.

Bishop Boxing Promotions plans to integrate both fighters into a schedule of regular events, improved training resources, and community outreach initiatives designed to rebuild local talent pipelines and attract international attention.

“We’re committed to rebuilding Ghanaian boxing from the ground up. Signing a reigning continental champion alongside a high-potential prospect demonstrates our dual focus: immediate competitiveness and long-term growth,” Dave Bishop, CEO of Bishop Boxing Promotions stated.

Upcoming plans include upgraded training facilities, grassroots scouting, and a slate of promoted fight nights across Ghana.

Bishop Boxing Promotions aims to create sustainable pathways for fighters, reengage fans, and draw sponsors and broadcasters to Ghanaian boxing.
