The Member of Parliament for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Bright Asamoah Brefo, has called for the construction of a modern sports stadium in Bibiani to enable the Western North Region to host continental football matches, following the historic Ghana Premier League victory by Bibiani Goldstars FC in the 2024/2025 season.

In a statement delivered during parliamentary proceedings on Monday, July 21, 2025, Brefo celebrated the remarkable achievement of Bibiani Goldstars FC, which clinched its maiden Ghana Premier League title with a commanding 4-0 victory over Accra Lions at Dun’s Park on June 8, 2025.

This triumph secured their qualification for the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Champions League, marking a significant milestone for the club and the Western North Region.

“Mr. Speaker, this is no ordinary success. It is a legacy-defining moment, a triumph of vision, hard work, and unity,” he stated.

He highlighted the collective spirit of the Bibiani community, including its youth, traditional leaders, and corporate partners like Asante Gold, in achieving this feat. The MP also paid tribute to the late Ayigbe, a loyal supporter, and acknowledged the invaluable support of Nananom and the club’s management under Coach Stephen Frimpong Manso.

However, the MP expressed concern that Bibiani Goldstars will be unable to host CAF Champions League matches at their home ground, Dun’s Park, due to the lack of a stadium meeting the Confederation of African Football (CAF) standards.

According to him, the team is considering playing their continental matches at either the Accra Sports Stadium or the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, with the latter likely to be chosen after necessary upgrades—a situation he described as unacceptable.

He emphasized the missed economic, social, and emotional benefits for Bibiani and the Western North Region, such as increased tourism, local commerce growth, job creation, and regional pride.

He urged the government to prioritize the construction of a modern sports stadium in Bibiani, equipped with adequate seating, dressing rooms, floodlights, media facilities, and accommodation for visiting teams.

“Mr. Speaker, this situation is unacceptable. I therefore rise to strongly advocate for the immediate construction of a modern sports stadium in Bibiani—a regional sports infrastructure that can serve as a hub for not only football but also athletics, youth development, and national sporting activities.

“This must not be a temporary fix. We need a stadium with proper seating capacity, dressing rooms, floodlights, media facilities, and accommodation for visiting teams. The people of Bibiani and the Western North have proven they are ready. It is now the turn of the nation to match their dedication with the investment they deserve,” he said.

The MP stressed that such infrastructure would not only support football but also serve as a hub for athletics, youth development, and national sporting activities.

“The people of Bibiani and the Western North have proven they are ready. It is now the turn of the nation to match their dedication with the investment they deserve,” he added.

Bright Asamoah Brefo also appealed to Parliament to include Bibiani Goldstars FC in this year’s Democracy Cup, a parliamentary-organized football event, as a fitting way to honor their historic victory and showcase their talent on a national stage.

“There could be no better way to reward merit and inspire more youth across Ghana,” he noted.

Bibiani Goldstars became the third consecutive team from the Western North Region to win the Premier League, following Medeama SC (2022/23) and FC Samartex (2023/24).
