Bernice Offei battled dementia for five years – Former manager reveals

Veteran Ghanaian gospel singer Bernice Offei had been battling dementia for about four to five years before her death at the age of 63, her former manager, Kwasi Ernest, has revealed.

According to the music executive, the condition had progressively affected the singer’s memory and her ability to carry out some everyday activities, eventually contributing to the circumstances surrounding her disappearance shortly before her death.

Kwasi Ernest made the revelation in an interview with Max TV, where he confirmed the passing of the veteran gospel musician.

Explaining Bernice Offei’s health condition, he said her dementia had affected her ability to remember important things and could leave her disoriented.

“For four to five years, she had been battling with dementia that affected her brain. When someone is sick of dementia, it affects the daily life of the person,” he explained.

He further disclosed that the singer left home at a time when her condition had been triggered, making it difficult for her to find her way back.

According to him, the family initially conducted a private search after realising that she had gone missing. When their efforts did not immediately yield results, they decided to make the search public.

“She left home and the ailment was triggered, so she couldn’t locate her house. After the initial search by the family wasn’t yielding results, they made the search public and they later found her,” Kwasi Ernest added.

The development came after concerns were raised over Bernice Offei’s whereabouts, with a public appeal subsequently made to help locate the veteran musician.

After she was found, the family reportedly rushed her to a hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, her condition reportedly deteriorated, and she passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the age of 63.

    Kwasi Ernest Pays Tribute

Beyond revealing details about her health struggles, Kwasi Ernest also paid tribute to Bernice Offei, describing her as a disciplined and God-fearing woman.

The former manager said the singer’s faith was not merely reflected in the gospel songs she performed or the message she preached, but also in the way she conducted herself in her personal life.

According to him, Bernice Offei made a conscious effort to practise the Christian values she preached to others.
