Black Stars goalkeeper, Benjamin Asare has dismissed reports suggesting he falsified his age to gain more opportunities in his football career.

He insisted that he is indeed 33 years old, as stated in his official documents, and has not altered his age as claimed by some football fans.

The Accra Hearts of Oak goalie explained that his intense training regimen may contribute to his older appearance, but his age remains accurate.

Speaking in an interview with Ghanaian content creator Code Micky, Asare expressed gratitude to God for earning a national team call-up, noting that criticisms about his age are unwarranted.

“Yes, my age is 33 years unless people who don’t know me choose to doubt it. Some may think I’m lying, but it’s true. I take my training seriously because, apart from football, I have no other source of income. The training sessions abroad are different from here. You have tablets, gyms, and other facilities readily available, but here in Ghana, I don’t have time for those things,” he said in Twi.

He further added that, “so maybe it’s because of the training that people see me as older. There are many players older than me who are still playing football. I’m playing for the national team at 33 I deserve it. I was never discouraged. I kept training, and now the opportunity has come, so I give thanks to God.”

The Phobia goalkeeper delivered impressive performances for the Black Stars during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, keeping multiple clean sheets.
