Benjamin Asare has reportedly earned a late call-up to the Black Stars squad for the upcoming international friendly against Mexico later this month.

The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper is expected to replace Gidios Aseako of Dreams FC in Carlos Queiroz’s maiden squad since taking charge of the Black Stars.

Benjamin Asare’s inclusion comes after his impressive performances in the Ghana Premier League this season, where he has established himself as one of the standout local goalkeepers.

His recent form has also attracted attention from the new Black Stars technical team led by Queiroz and goalkeeping coach Daniel Gasper and will further use this game to prepare himself adequately for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The squad announced by Queiroz featured a mix of Europe-based players, local stars, and members of Ghana’s current U-23 side preparing for the upcoming Olympic Games qualifiers.

Notable names in the squad include Majeed Ashimeru, Felix Afena-Gyan, Ibrahim Osman, as well as the Saint-Étienne duo of Augustine Boakye and Ebenezer Annan.

Young talents such as Prince Amoako Junior, Joseph Opoku, Jesurun Rak-Sakyi and Francis Amuzu were also rewarded with invitations following their performances abroad.

The key senior players of the Black Stars were left out of the squad due to club commitments as the European season is still ongoing. Ghana’s friendly against Mexico national football team is scheduled for Friday, May 22.
