A woman and one-year-old girl have been found dead inside a home south of Brisbane after a blood-soaked man with a neck wound was hit by a car as he fled the scene.

Queensland Police initially rushed to the scene after reports of a pedestrian hit by a car outside the Woolworths on Beaudesert Beenleigh Road at Bannockburn, south of Brisbane, about 7.30am on Thursday.

But when officers went to Belivah Road address in nearby Belivah to alert the man’s next of kin, they found the bodies of a woman, 38, and a one-year-old girl, both with fatal knife wounds.

The man, 39, was rushed Princess Alexandra Hospital in a serious condition, where he remains unconscious and under police guard.

Detective Superintendent Chris Ahern said that the woman and child’s fatal injuries were consistent with being caused by an edged weapon.

He confirmed the pair lived at the home with the man who is under police guard.

‘We’re treating it as a suspicious death,’ Det Sut Ahern said.

‘We are investigating the nature of why that gentleman came to be hit by a car.

‘We also have witness accounts of him running from the house shortly before he was struck by the car.

‘There are some witness accounts that suggest he was running towards where he was hit by the car and had already had some injuries to the neck area, but again, forensic examination and fuller treatment of the full circumstances are going to be able to answer those questions.’

Police made the grim discovery after they attended the man’s house to inform next of kin that he had been in a serious crash.

‘That’s how we came about being at the house and making the discovery that we did,’ Det Supt Ahern said.

Police are investigating the nature of the relationship between those who lived at the home.

‘Early indications are that there are no domestic violence related holdings from a police perspective, in relation to this family,’ Det Supt Ahern said.

The man ran towards the nearby supermarket several hundred metres away, leaving behind a trail of blood.

‘We believe he’s just headed down that street and then got to where the car was and then was struck there,’ Det Supt Ahern said.

‘We’re anxious to speak with him so that we can get a fuller appraisal of the circumstances.’

One shocked neighbour told Daily Mail police arrived outside the Belivah property at about 8.30am.

She had never met the occupiers of the home but believed they had moved in recently.

A heavy police presence has surrounded the home, which was built around six to nine months ago, according to another neighbour.

Others neighbours recalled hearing a woman’s screams from inside the home.

Footage showed Beaudesert Beenleigh Road blocked off with multiple emergency vehicles.

‘Large police presence in the area too, had about four pass me under lights and sirens,’ a local posted online.

The man fled the the home and was running towards the nearby Woolworths when he was struck by a vehicle

Another added: ‘I had to park at the Woolies and walk to my house.’

There were also unconfirmed reports that gunshots were heard from the home.

‘We have no information regarding that,’ Det Supt Ahern said.

Beaudesert Beenleigh Road, at the intersection of Belivah Rd was closed to traffic for the rest of the morning as detectives and forensic officers examined the scene.

Police urge potential witnesses who was in the vicinity of Belivah Road, Belivah and Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road at Bannockburn between 7am and 8.30am on Thursday  and may have information or vision to come forward.
