Dr Mahamudu Bawumia commenced his campaign for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearership with a powerful grassroots-focused event in the Sene East constituency on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, immediately generating palpable momentum and igniting what party delegates are calling “renewed zeal” for the 2028 general elections.

In a clear demonstration of his campaign strategy to build support from the ground up, Dr Bawumia chose to begin his nationwide tour not in an urban political stronghold but in the heart of the Bono East Region, delivering a message of unity, empowerment, and forward-looking vision directly to the party’s foundational members.

The former Vice-President engaged in extensive consultations with polling station executives, electoral area coordinators, and former and current constituency officers, council of elders and patrons, emphasising that the journey towards election 2028 and secure an unprecedented third consecutive term begins with a united and motivated grassroots base.

“The energy we are feeling here in Sene East is exactly what our party needs to build upon,” Dr Bawumia told the enthusiastic crowd.

“Our focus must be on the future, on the policies that will transform Ghana, and on the collective work required to secure victory for the NPP in 2028. That work starts today, with you, the backbone of our party,” he added.

The response from delegates was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing that the visit had fundamentally shifted their outlook from post-election analysis to pre-victory mobilisation.

“Dr Bawumia’s decision to start his campaign here in Sene East speaks volumes. It shows he hasn’t forgotten the people who do the hard work in the trenches,” said Kwame Agyekum, a polling station executive. “This grassroots-first approach has ignited a fire in us. We are not just talking about 2028; we are feeling the zeal to start organizing for it right now.”

Another delegate, Hajia Fuseina, echoed the sentiment.

“This was more than a campaign stop; it was a mobilization. The message was clear, inclusive, and empowering. We are leaving here not just as supporters, but as commissioned ambassadors for the 2028 battle. The zeal is back, and it starts here in Sene East.”

Political observers noted that the successful and spirited launch effectively sets the tone for Dr Bawumia’s constituency-by-constituency tour, signaling a campaign that intends to win the flagbearership and the general election by harnessing the untapped energy of the party’s base across the nation.
