Sam George, the Ningo-Prampram member of parliament, has criticized Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the NPP’s presidential candidate, for saying he supported Ghana’s mobile money interoperability program.
Sam George claims that because the mobile money interoperability plan was already in place before Bawumia arrived, he never supported it.
“Roland, we are in this country and MoMo has been running for 15 years before Bawumia even thought of becoming a vice president,” said Sam Goerge in an interview with TV3 New Day.
Sam George explained, “Let me tell you something. Prior to the interoperability platform being started by the Bank of Ghana under Abdul Nasiru Issahaku, the telcos allowed you to transfer money. You could transfer money from MTN to Vodafone using a token.”
“I will transfer to you, they will give you a token, and you will use the token to go to the agent and withdraw the money,” Sam George added. “What are you advocating for, something that existed before he arrived?”
