In the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary on Saturday, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia was chosen as the party’s flagbearer.

With 110,643 votes, or 56.48 percent, the former vice president won handily, setting himself up to lead the party in the upcoming general elections.

Dr. Bryan Acheampong finished third with 36,303 votes, or 18.53 percent, while Kennedy Agyapong came in second with 46,554 votes, or 23.76 percent. Following them were Kwabena Agyei Agyepong in fifth place with 402 votes, or 0.21 percent, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum in fourth place with 1,999 votes, or 1.02 percent.

More than 211,000 delegates nationwide participated in the primary, casting ballots at 333 polling places spread throughout all 275 constituencies.

To guarantee an open and reliable procedure, voting was carried out under strict security and closely observed by party authorities. According to preliminary findings, Dr. Bawumia had a strong performance, indicating widespread support among party delegates. With few incidents recorded during voting and counting, party leaders and observers praised the event as being mainly peaceful.

Dr. Bawumia thanked delegates for their support after winning and promised to run a cohesive and inclusive campaign in the run-up to the general elections in 2028. In order to ensure a national triumph, he urged all NPP members—including those who backed other candidates—to unite behind the party.
