Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is Ghana’s former Vice President

Former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed optimism ahead of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primary race scheduled to take place in January 2026.

In a video shared on X on October 26, 2025, the former Vice president, in an interaction with some delegates in Tano North, noted that he is positive of securing 90% of the total votes cast in the constituency.

Dr Bawumia explained that he would need similar support he received during the party’s primaries in 2023, adding that he would not disappoint them when given the mandate as the flagbearer in 2026.

“I am very happy today because when I come to Tano North, I feel like I have come home. I want to thank all of you because in 2023, you voted for me massively with 84%.

‘I scored 41%, that makes me the best so far- Bawumia defends record

“The way you supported me in 2023, this coming January 2026, I would need the same support again so we can reach 90%,” he said.

Dr Mahamudu Bawumia further assured delegates in Tano North that if he secures the baton as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, he won’t let them fail.

“All of you know that I will be ruling the country with you if I become the president,” he added.
