Simons Sekyim, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga-North, has appealed to Ghanaians to back the presidential ambition of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in the 2024 general elections.

In an interview on Next FM on November 26, 2024, Sekyim argued that granting Dr. Bawumia the opportunity to serve as president for a four-year term would enable Ghanaians to fairly assess his performance against that of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

“For track record purposes, Ghanaians should allow Dr. Bawumia to assume the highest office as president for at least four years. This way, we can compare and contrast his works with those of John Mahama, who has already served as both vice president and president,” Sekyim explained.

The MCE emphasized that if Dr. Bawumia is given the mandate in 2024, both candidates would be on equal footing as former presidents by the time of the 2028 elections, allowing voters to decide who is the “champion” based on their presidential records.

“I am pleading with Ghanaians that Mahamudu Bawumia has been vice president before, and Mahama has also been vice president. Mahama has been a president before, but Bawumia has not. So let us test Bawumia to become president, then in 2028, Mahama and Bawumia can face the ‘Champions League’ after he has also served as president,” Sekyim said.

He urged Ghanaians to vote for Dr. Bawumia in the upcoming elections, stressing that it is time to give him the opportunity to lead the nation
