What was meant to be a relaxing Sunday, on July 27, 2025, turned into a heartbreaking tragedy, as Hyderabad, as 26-year-old Gundla Rakesh, collapsed and died suddenly, while playing badminton with friends.
The incident occurred at Nagole Stadium, where Rakesh, a private company employee from Khammam, was engaged in a casual doubles match.
Eyewitnesses say the young man had just stooped to pick up a shuttlecock when he suddenly collapsed to the ground.
Initially, friends believed he had merely slipped, but panic quickly set in when he failed to respond to their calls.
Attempts were made to resuscitate him with chest compressions, and he was rushed to the nearest hospital in a private vehicle.
Sadly, it was too late. Doctors declared him dead on arrival. Although the exact cause is yet to be confirmed, early indications point to sudden cardiac arrest.
A post-mortem will determine the precise cause of death.
The tragic episode has sparked renewed concern about heart-related emergencies among young and seemingly fit individuals online.
